I liked all of the films we saw, but I think the first one affected me the most.
I was really surprised to learn how they dealt with the issue of children being born with incarcerated mothers. I would have thought that the children would have been placed into a sort of foster family situation, and was shocked to learn about the alternative. It is sad to know that social programs to deal with adversities such as this do not exist in the Ukraine yet.
However, I also really liked the film Bozhychi. It is inspiring to know that young people are taking an interest in a culture that is known so well by an older generation. I think it's very important to keep cultural traditions alive. Of course not everybody feels this way so it was nice to see that there is a contingent of other young people that are interested in preserving those aspects of Ukrainian culture. |
