I would have to agree with DB. Rachelle Ferrell is an AMAZING singer!!! She sings from the heart AND the brain. I also have too many "vocal heroes" to mention in various genres. My favorite singers are the ones who make me wanna throw a hymn book (or a shoe, if a hymn book isn't handy) at them. I'd like to throw a shoe at Rachelle when she sings "I Can Explain" or at Sheryl Crow when she sings "Safe and Sound."

Replying to: Well, there are just so many... Firstly Rachelle Ferrell. She is the goddess of voice. She is a wonderful blend of many things. First she is a blend of God-given talent and self-imposed hard work. I feel like God gave her a diamond in the rough and she chose to polish the heck out of it. Next, she's a blend of technicality and emotion. She does what she does so well but still maintains that emotional core. She's not just singing, she's FEELING. So on all those levels, Rachelle has a humongous impact on me.
There are just soooooo many others I can't even name them but certainly all soul singers of the 60s and 70s and 90s (i.e. Erykah, D'Angelo...) and many other singers including opera and jazz and all kinds of stuff. Influences are wide and sweeping! Who are yours Dawn?

Replying to: Who is/are the singer(s) who has/have influenced or inspired you the most? And why? Be as technical as you want - we're all singers here. |
