DD214 Form
I know this doesn't have anything to do w/hawk but I wanted to post it. If you don't know this is the most important form we Vets have, without it, its impossible to deal w/VA. My brother, who was w/the 57th HAWK in Germany 68-69 died two weeks ago today, is still in the Houston VA hospital awaiting to be buried in the VA Cemetery. The problem? no one can find his 214 form and the Cemetery will not accept his Honorable Discharge form because it does not have the time spent on active duty. So again I know this is not HAWK but I think all should make sure they have that DD214!!! |

Hi Bob, Sorry to hear about your brother. There isn't a copy of his DD 214 lying around? Have you tried your Congressman? Most of your local county clerk offices will record your DD 214 for free. That way when you need one you go there and they have it on file for you . It usually doesn't cost anything to get a copy, or at the most a dollar or two to cover the cost of reproduction. It's a good idea as I have heard of other vets that have had the same problem. |

I saw this post from back earlier in the year and it reminded me that I had recently requeste information from military records including the DD 214. You can actually go to to the http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html and requeste military recoreds. They sent the information to the address I requested and it was free as I recall. Rick Webb |

I have also misplaced my original DD214. I rely on an old yellow copy I have laying around. Another bonus of having your DD214 or a copy is that when you start drawing your Social Security, if you can produce your DD214 or a copy it will get you an extra $5 per month added to your monthly benefit payment. |
