I posted something on the HS page that says that the person who doesn't practice, but waits for Friday rehearsals, will be a liability to the group. EVERYONE (even if you work 12 hours a day in the summer) can pick their sticks up for 15 minutes a day. If you did just that little bit, your mind and your hands will remember from day to day, and that's what we're after here:
"Muscle Memory"
Muscle memory is what causes you to be able to hold that stick down right after an accent, to gauge where the second stroke of a diddle needs to be placed, or to keep the grace note of a flam down. If you don't rehearse those things on a daily basis, your muscles will not "remember". Therefore, your "muscle memory" will be next to nothing, if not zilch if you only rehearse those things once a week! |
