--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Palmdale and Lancaster sheriff's stations are in the process of selecting 50 residents to participate in the Antelope Valley's 20th Community Academy.
The program will focus on the Sheriff Department's operation procedures as well as sessions ranging from criminal law and undercover operations. Participants will go on a ride-along, tour custody facility and participate in a role-playing exercise.

The academy is designed to build a better understanding between the community and the Sheriff's Department.

Classes for the free 12-week academy will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, with a two-week break for the holidays, at the Lancaster Sheriff's Station, 501 West Lancaster Blvd.

Due to limited class space, not everyone will be able to participate; those who are selected will be notified.

Eligible applicants who are not enrolled will be placed on a list for possible future selection.

For details, contact Deputy Dave Jennings of the Palmdale Sheriff's Station at (661) 272-2415 or Deputy Kelly Simon of the Lancaster Sheriff's Station at (661) 948-8466, or apply online at www.avheros.com.

Completed applications also be returned to the Palmdale station, 750 East Ave. Q.
