Have you ever visited a museum that displays real torture devices from the Middle Ages? I'm looking for a place to learn about these things in a historical context.
The Museum of Medieval Torture in Chicago https://medievaltorturemuseum.com/chicago/
is a place that leaves a double impression: on the one hand, it is creepy to realize that people once really used these methods, and on the other hand, it is extremely interesting to study how the judicial system and punishments developed in the Middle Ages. The exhibits here are very realistic, and the descriptions are so detailed that sometimes you get a chill down your spine. I was especially struck by the “Spanish Boot” and the “Iron Maiden” - it is hard to believe that such things actually existed. If you like unusual and dark history, this is definitely the place for you!
