Free Workshop at Orange Senior Center Educates Public
on Costs and Alternatives of Long Term Care for
Seniors.

Orange, CA -- -- There are so many issues concerning
long-term care that making the right choice can be
overwhelming. For instance, do you need
assisted-living, skilled-nursing, or long-term care
insurance? Does Medicare or health insurance cover
long-term care costs? It is a hard road to navigate.

David Lowe, senior advocate and marketing director at
Angles Loving Care, Inc. caregiving service can help
you learn the basics of long term care with his free
workshop.
The workshop will help you decide which long term care
choice is best for you or your loved one.
This issue is especially important as we are seeing a
paradigm shift in the aging demographics. The world is
aging, and now more than ever people are living much
longer in their retirement years. In addition, many
people are in the “sandwich generation“ meaning they
have children and parents to care for at the same
time. This puts severe financial and emotional stress
on the family unit. It is normal to feel worried, but
help is out there.

According to Lowe, "the main comment I get from
clients is, ‘I wish I would have known before that
there was help for me to remain in my home.’ My job as
an advocate is to help seniors remain in their homes
as they age and provide quality care to them.”
Most people don’t want to leave their homes, but end
up in assisted living or other institutions because
THEY don’t realize there ARE better alternatives.
Usually, the best alternative to institutions is to
“age-in-place” that is stay in their own home. This is
the best choice because people are attached
emotionally to their homes and neighborhoods, and it
costs much less than other alternatives. Seniors who
need help with activities of daily living like
bathing, fixing meals, shopping, and outings and who
live alone may feel forced into moving; however, that
is not always necessary. There are home caregivers,
Meals-on-Wheels, smart housing ( ways to make
adjustments to the home for easier maneuvering) to
support seniors to remain in their homes. There are
also local senior centers like the Orange Senior
Center, which provide social and physical support at
minimal costs. Using these resources costs a lot less
than institutionalized care.
“We are advocates to help seniors save money and
maintain their quality of life ," added Lowe.
At the free workshop, David will be joined by Vicky
Costilow, advocate for the aging, and social worker at
the city of Huntington Beach. She will help David
explain long-term care alternatives.
