We are researching the Close family from Ballymacward/Hannahstown areas and would be very grateful if any forum member could share some information on this family. In particular, we are trying to establish a connection, if any, between John Close (died 1890) and William Close (died 1878).
Both are buried in Tullyrusk graveyard, although no headstone for John Close.

Here's hoping!!!

Hi

My 3rd Great Grandfather was William John Close, died 30/9/1876 who married a Mary Jane ?.
The had 5 children that I know of Margaret, William John, James, Charlotte and Mary Jane. All from the Derriaghy area.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Maggie,

The family names of your William John Close do not correspond with the names I have for my gt.gt.grandfather John Close. As far as I have been able to ascertain, his children's names were Catherine, Ellen, Teresa, Rosey, Anne Jane, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, Hugh James, John and James. The children of William Close were Bryan, Anne Jane, John and William, that I know of.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Re: Close Family Ballymacward/Hannahstown

Hello,

I have a Richard Mussen marrying a Sarah Close in the mid 1700's. They lived in and are buried in Derriaghy. Then the name Close is used as a middle name far a couple of Mussen children.

Does this help or do you recognize the Mussen name?

Obituary from the Belfast Newsletter:
Tuesday December 12, 1815
Died on Sunday the 10th inst. at Moss Side, near Lisburn, in the 91st year of her age, Mrs Sarah Mussen, relict of the late Mr. Richard Mussen of that place - she could for the last seven years read the smallest print without the aid of glasses, although for many years prior to that period, her sight had gradually decayed. She had *10 children, 9 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren, making together the number of 150

Sarah was the 4th daughter of Henry Close of Plantation, Co. Down and Sarah his wife. He died 1741.

Hello Tina,
The Mussen name has not come up in my Close family research. Nothing else rings a bell with me at this stage. If I do make a connection, I will certainly be in touch. Many thanks for your reply to my post - it is much appreciated.

Re: Close Family Ballymacward/Hannahstown

Hi Noelle: Thank you for response. Three of the Close brothers, John, Hugh and William, ended up in Canada. Their brother James has included them and one of their children in his will made in Baltimore Maryland, USA. So perhaps someone on this site may find their Close family in Canada. Would you have any good hints as to where I can find how and when Robert, Margaret, Sarah and Elisha Close came to USA? I know the wife Margaret and the 2 children did not come over with Robert in the 1830's. I have searched literally hundreds of ship passenger list and have access to Ancestry.com. Any suggestions? Thanks again Margaret

Re: Close Family Ballymacward/Hannahstown

Hello Margaret,

I have no immigration records for any of my Close family. From what I have been able to find out so far, all stayed in Ireland. I am sorry that I can not be of more help.
Wishing you good luck in your research.
Kind regards,
Noelle
