Salvation Army Charity Concert

Last night was the Salvation Army charity concert at Regent Hall Oxford St London
Unfortunately Lee had a cold and was unable to perform.
He did turn up and he made a lovely speech about how the Salvation Army has been a part of his life.
He got quiet emotional talking about his "nanna".
Lee did say that he and the SA will arrange another date for a concert and everyone that had a ticket for last nights show would be able to go.

Lee did sing ADWD with the children because he didn't want to disappoint them after all their hard work rehearsing:heart_eyes: .
Kerry Ellis and Nicholas Lester did a fabulous job performing extra songs to make up for Lee not being able to sing.

Re: Salvation Army Charity Concert

What a shame he was ill but how nice of him to turn up to do the speech and the song with the kids.

Re: Salvation Army Charity Concert

Yes, it was a shame Lee was poorly on Saturday, but there seems to be a nasty 'lurgy' doing the rounds at the moment doesn't there. At the recent Southend Panto almost the whole cast were ill with colds/lurgy etc. at some point and Lee had a cold then. What I thought was so lovely was the introduction the SA Compere for the evening (Captain Jo Moir) made before Lee came on. She said she always knew Lee was a lovely guy, but she now knew he was a 'gentleman', she went on to say he could so easily have sent his apologies for being ill and not turned up, but no Lee came because, as Joan said, 'he didn't want to disappoint the children in the choir who were singing with him'. Now we've always known Lee is a gentleman haven't we, but nice to hear others say it too..

The adult 'massed audience choir' which included several Lee fans on stage, sang The Hallelujah Chorus and 'When The Saints Go Marching In' brilliantly. It was a good evening but of course we missed Lee, particularly as the programme had already been printed and we saw the ones he would have been singing.:disappointed:.

Yes, it was such a shame Lee was incapacitated, but so lovely of him to be there.

Captain Jo definitely had a soft spot for Lee - and a sense of humour! Fundraising is a big thing in the SA, and she jokingly said that Lee would like to personally thank anyone who donated £1,000 during the course of the evening - ladies, just form an orderly queue outside his dressing room! At least, I think she was joking ........ :joy:

Re: Salvation Army Charity Concert

It was a lovely evening, the members of the Salvation Army are so welcoming and friendly.
Captain Jo also said how gracious Lee is.
Typical of him not to want to let the children down, he was obviously unwell, his voice a shadow of its' normal self but so good to see him there.
