Children in river after boat capsizes

I remember this because it scared the daylights out of me.

I don't remember if the children were running away...for some reason, they embarked on this river journey. Not sure why the Amazon sticks in my mind...South America?

Can anyone shed some light?

you might be thinking of the british film called "hand in hand", 1960, shown several times throughout the airing years of the children's film festival. google it and see if this is it.
