Gene:

Your analogy of relating watered down tea to the endless compromises by our weak spine leadership on the right is, in my learned opinion anyway, without fault!

It is because of hard core RINOs such as my own Senator Specter and to a lesser but I fear growing degree our own Senator Santorum, that we could easily lose the war against the Islamofaciest. On that issue, America must quite compromising on national security and end the silly notion that we must bring the "evil doers" to justice. President Bush must tell world that we will kill the terrorist in any nation where they reside including the those in Islamic terrorist cells in the USA!

We Must Attend to our Liberty

Great article Gene, your insight is very enlightening. All these issues concern me deeply, I hope this concern is wide spread among us. I must say after reading this article you may have swayed my opinion concerning flag desecration. I have been in support of this amendment, but your comments seem to open a window of light to see something I wasn’t aware of, something called government intrusion upon our liberties. If this is so, God forgive me. But it makes me aware how easily we can let our liberties slip from our grip, though our intention may be ever so good. We must truly guard them ever so diligently, even at times from our own reasoning’s.

God Bless,

David

God and Prayer in Public Schools

Please post your comments here:

Hey Gene, great article! I seem to be able to follow you reasoning and agree to what I understand you to mean. No one can keep us from praying or remove from our hearts what God alone has placed there. Nor do we need our public schools taking the place or the responsibility that we as parents have. But I must add, (and by doing so I don’t want it to appear that I think I know more and anyone else) that the place that pray has held in our public schools as well as other public and governmental functions is a very important aspect of our society. And to humbly disagree with you to some extent, the removal of this public acknowledgement in our schools has to a great degree attributed to the disregard of the principles that have governed our society for over two centuries.

We do enter into our closet and pray, but when we emerge our lives reflect the results of that pray. I am one who believes it is to be reflected not only in our religious lives but our public and private lives as well. Our nation was build upon these principles and as a result our nation reflected them in our constitutions of government and the establishments of higher learning. It was woven in the very fabric of our society.

We learned in our schools that our nation was great because it was good, it was good because it was a nation under God, subject to his law. We learned that as a nation we honored Him because as a nation we acknowledged Him in our public square. We learned this by example, in our public prayers. These prayers were an outgrowth of our private prayers but no less important! Neither can reach it’s full potential without the other!

Perhaps the removal of the later is the result of the careless lose of the former! But to pull back and to say that God and prayer in our public schools has not had a profound affect upon our society is to underestimate the power of public prayer.

It will not stop me as an individual from my walk of faith, nor should it dimini

It amazes me how people like you are able to find weak minded people. There are no more independent thinkers in the world. The real axis of evil is the fake partisans claiming to be "republicans" and Democrates. There is no difference betwenn the two. Greedy, Warmongers and facist controlling weak minds. Continue on your paths because in the long run you will only hurt your own kind.

[Note from Gene: The above comments were in reference to my article, "Political Skunks," were I discussed the issue of blaming Bush for not preventing the events that happened on 9-11. I allow negative comments, including those above. I have my views about his comments, but I will let others decide how rational or irrational Mr. Conyers thoughts are.]

Divided We Fall

Please post your comments here:

Gene, you are right on again, as usual! When will we start thinking of ourselves as Americans instead of hyphenated-Americans. We can all be proud of our various differing ethnic backgrounds and celebrate that, but as you say, it is really not feasible to publically fund a special museum for every single ethnic group in America. The Smithsonian is indeed a fine monument to all our cultures.

It just never ceases to amaze me how quickly politicians will jump on the bandwagon to spend our hard earned tax payer dollars, all in the name of getting the "minority" vote in the next election. I mean, really, isn't that what this political correctness boils down to?!

Gene, I always enjoy your commentaries. Please keep 'em coming.

I must say, I totally agree with you that this political correctness hogwash, which began under Clinton, has done nothing more than exploit the already existing frictions among gender, races and all other different groups.

As you so well put it, we DO have a Museum that conserves, displays and maintains American History data and artifacts. A museum that is inclusive of ALL those that can claim the title "AMERICAN." We do not need to perpetuate divisions among us.

Who is to say, that next, people of spanish or asian descent won't feel neglected and demand a museum of their own?

As Americans, the rights given by the Constitution cover anyone, regardless of color, gender and previous nationality.

As Americans we either fight together, or, fight each other.

I am saddened that conservatives, including our President have jumped on the 'political correctness' bandwagon. This museum is a total unnecessary waste of our money and another sign that continues to separate us, creating inner turmoil that NO special segregated museum can resolve.

Beside, as you wisely pointed out, it will not make those Americans that happen to be black and who dislike us, like us any better. They will see it as a false pretense on our part.
Gene, you made so many excellent points, that it's hard for me to choose just one, but I think the following summarizes pretty well the core of your message:

Quote: "Diversity.....has not made this country great. What has made America great is the freedom America gave to the diversity of ideas by the citizens of America. Allowing the citizens of America freedom to write, to invent, to speak, the pursue happiness, to engage in entrepreneurial opportunities. Do you actually believe other nations do not have diversity? Every nation has diversity! The difference in America is freedom! Freedom.... is what makes America great, not diversity!"

Right on!!! Diversity is NOT unique to America. What makes us unique to the rest of the worl

Dear Mr. Johns:

Thank you for your marvelous [commentary on the National African American Museum] letter! It was eloquent and right on the mark. Of course, it won't do any good, but at least you spoke the truth!

Below are a few of the comments I received about "American Patriotism" before I had this message board. Unfortunately, I did not keep all of them, so if your comments are not listed below, I apologize. It was only because I no longer had them to post--but, they were appreciated none the less.

Good article. As a matter of fact I should say "very good!"

First of all, thank you for your service to our nation, for which you should be justifiably most proud.

And thank you for the excellent article; it's exactly what all Americans need to hear, and repeatedly. The Conrad quote (which I'd not read before) was dead-on--without the foundation in this land, and a grounding in its rule of law and faith in God, we don't even know who we are...and act accordingly.

I appreciate your taking time to pen those timeless thoughts, to remind us of who we are...or should be...and look forward to more from you.
